What is Renaissance?
Renaissance, a proven viable solution to scholastic challenges, is designed to promote and recognize academic achievement. It helps students experience the joy of learning, recognizes educators as dedicated and valued professionals, and increases the involvement of parents and businesses. Its primary objective is to give recognition to students for their positive behavior and achievements.
Renaissance’s Mission Statement
Founded by educators in 1988, Jostens Renaissance is the first and only North American education-focused program created to recognize and reward the academic achievements of students from elementary school through college. Its primary goals are to increase student performance, teacher enthusiasm, and raise the level of community participation in schools.
Marquette Renaissance Programs
The ACE Award is presented to ten students each semester who excel in Academics, Character, and overall Excellence. Students are nominated by individual teachers and then voted on by the Marquette Staff. The ACE Award is an Academic Award and nominees must be juniors or seniors with a GPA of at least a 3.5 to receive the award. This award can only be received once during a student’s career at Marquette.
Commit to Graduate
All Marquette Seniors are invited to participate in the “I Commit to Graduate” activity. Early in the school year seniors are sent to a designated area where they get their hands painted and then place their hand print on a banner along with their signature signifying their intent to graduate. The banner is hung in the Center at Marquette for the school year as a reminder to all students of the commitment the seniors have made as well as how important it is for all our students to graduate from high school.
This recognition comes three times a year. Each staff member may select one student in the fall, one in the winter and one in the spring as a Marvelous Mustang. Each honoree is invited to visit the Renaissance table on stage during lunch to receive a certificate, a pack of great coupons, and the very prestigious MARVELOUS MUSTANG t-shirt. Posters of the recipients are hung under the Mustang Mural in the Center. Students may receive this award only once a year.
Student of the Day
One Student of the Day is chosen by a teacher/faculty member. The criterion is determined by the nominating teacher/faculty member. A student may be chosen once during their high school career. A Renaissance student delivers a balloon, t-shirt, certificate and coupons to the “Student of the Day.” The “Student of the Day” has his/her picture taken and fills out an information sheet to be featured on the daily announcements. The student’s picture and information sheet is added to the wall outside the library.
Student of the Quarter
One Student of the Quarter is chosen from each class by the grade level principals. The students are chosen based on academic achievement, character in the classroom, and their positive contribution to the Marquette community. Students receive a plaque from their grade level principal and may only win the award once in their career at Marquette.
Trivia Thursday is a fun tradition at Marquette. Each Thursday, administrators call ten students on stage during each lunch shift and ask them questions about fun Marquette Trivia. The student who answers correctly wins an entire pizza for their table.
The Winners’ Circle Award is a prestigious award given at the end of each academic year. Each Marquette staff member is invited to choose one student they would like to honor based on their own criteria. This award may be earned once during a student’s high school career and is awarded at a formal ceremony with teachers, staff members, administration, parents and students.
