Happy New Year-2019!!!

​Can you believe that 1 semester is complete in your child's high school career? Thank you for all of your support to MHS and your child.

A few remiders as we begin the 2nd semester:

  • Any student that missed a Final Exam is eligible to take the Final Exam January 2-8 in the Flex Room. Students will need a picture ID.
  • Counselors will meet with the Freshman Class on January 17th to review the process for selecting courses for the 2019-2020 school year. Counselors will later meet with each individual student by April 18th to go over their class selections.
  • MACC & Student Council are sponsoring the MHS TurnAbout Dance on Saturday, February 9th. Tickets go on sale February 4th for $10.
  • Please continue to call the 9th grade office (636-891-6021) if your child is going to be absent or needs to be dismissed early from school. Call as early as possible so that a dismissal note can be prepared for your child. You will not have to come in the building to sign your child out.

Welcome Class of 2022...

​I hope that Orientation activities went well for our students and parents. I am excited for the new school year and to work with a great group of students.

  • August 10th is our Freshman Walk Thru day at MHS. It will begin at 11:15 am in the Theater. 9th graders will have a brief Class meeting, pizza lunch (provided by MHS), and follow their class schedule to meet their teachers. Our day will end at 2:00 pm.
  • Applications are avialable in the 9th grade office for the Ted Wiese Leadership Workshop. The workshop is scheduled for Friday, September 14th at MHS. Limited to 80 participants.
  • School begins on Tuesday, August 14th!

​Say it isn't so... Our Seniors are about to graduate. Thank you for the opportunity to have worked with your student over these last 4 years. I hope that their experiences at MHS have made them better, made them smarter, and prepared them for the next opportunities and endeavors in their lives.

Included is additional information pertaining to graduation. I hope that this will answer all of your questions. If there are additional questions you have please contact the office at 636-891-6021.


  • Graduation FAQs

  • Cap and gowns that were not picked up on May 4th.

  • Students can pick these up in the senior office anytime after May 4th.

  • All fines must be cleared prior to picking up caps and gowns.

  • When is graduation?

  • The graduation ceremony is on Wednesday, May 23.

  • Where is graduation?  What time does it begin?

  • The ceremony will be held at the St. Louis University Chaifetz Arena located at #1 South Compton Avenue, Saint Louis, MO 63103.  The ceremony begins at 7:00 pm and the doors will open to the public at 6:00pm.  Graduates are expected to be in the building no later than 6:00 pm.

  • When is the mandatory graduation rehearsal?

  • All seniors participating in the graduation ceremony must attend the rehearsal on Friday, May 18 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm in the Marquette gym.  Graduates may leave campus as soon as practice is over.

  • Where do parents, graduates and visitors park?

  • Parking is available in the Olive Garage. This garage is located at the corner of Olive Street and Compton Avenue which is approximately 2 blocks from the Chaifetz Arena.   Once this garage is full graduates/parents/visitors will be directed to park in the Laclede Garage located at the corner of Grand Boulevard and Laclede Avenue which is approximately a seven minute walk from the Arena. Handicap parking is available in both garages. There is also very limited street parking on Compton Avenue.

  • Is there a handicap drop-off and seating at Chaifetz Arena?

  • There is a handicap drop-off located on South Compton Avenue in front of the main entrance. Once inside the Arena ushers can assist you with stair-free handicap seating which is available on the concourse level.

  • Where do parents and guests enter the Arena?

  • Parents and guests may use Gates A, B, and C for entry into the Arena.

  • Where do the graduates enter the Arena?

  • Graduates must enter through the VIP entrance located on the west side of the building.  This entrance is clearly marked.  Once inside, graduates will be directed to the staging area.  This information will be discussed with graduates at the mandatory practice on May 18th.  Only graduates and Marquette staff are allowed in the staging area. 

  • Can noisemakers, balloons, and other celebratory items be brought into the Arena?

  • Chaifetz Arena absolutely prohibits the use of celebratory items including, but not limited to, air horns, noise makers, and balloons.  These will be confiscated at the gate.  In the event that any of these items are brought into the Arena,  Chaifetz security will remove the item and ask the owner to leave.

  • Following the ceremony where do we meet our graduate?

  • Family members and visitors are not permitted on the Arena floor at any time. This includes following the ceremony.  Graduates will return to the staging area immediately following the ceremony to exchange their gown for their diploma.   Family members and visitors should meet their graduate outside at a predetermined place.

  • Will a professional photographer take pictures during the ceremony?

  • Each graduate's picture will be taken by Lifetouch as he/she crosses the stage to receive his/her diploma cover.   Information about those pictures is given to students at graduation practice.    Also, 'Copy Cat Video' will video the complete ceremony with close-ups of all graduates as they receive their diploma.  Order forms to purchase the video were emailed last week, and they are also on the my blog. 

  • Can I take a picture with my graduate in their cap and gown at the Arena?

  • Graduates enter the Arena through a separate door from their guests and immediately return to the staging area following the ceremony,  there will not be an opportunity to take pictures with your graduate in their cap and gown after the ceremony.   So, please take all pictures of your graduate in their cap and gown with family members and friends before he/she enters the building.  ​

Senior News...

We want to wlecome Mrs. Rhonda Costa as the new grade level secretary for the Senior Class. Mrs. Costa looks forward to assisting you with any questions that you may have.


Josten's will be at MHS on Thursday, November 2 to collect packets for ordering graduation caps & gowns. Seniors may also order graduation announcements, memorabilia, and Senior wear.


Senior Incentive forms for 2nd semester are available in the Senior office. The forms must be completed and returned by December 15. 


If a Senior wants to change their schedule for 2nd semester they must make the change with their counselor before the last day of the 1st semester (December 21).


Final Exams for the 1st semester are December 18-21.

The Beginning of the Senior Year...

​I have shared many times that the 4 years would go by very fast. Do you believe me now? Three years are in the past, and one good year is ahead of us.

Registration packets have been mailed out. You should recieve it in the mail the week of July 10th. If you have moved or do not recieve the registration packet please call or come up to the Welcome Center.

The Senior Office has moved. The 12th grade office is located on the 3rd near the elevator. Mr. Hudson & Mrs. Phoebe Owenby are still working with the Senior Class.

Moving Fast...
  • ​Can you believe it? Your Junior student is completing for the last time their registration for course selection at MHS. The selection portal is open from January 20th through January 30th.
  • Counselors will be meeting with individual students over the next 6 weeks. These appointments are already scheduled through the Language Arts classes.
  • Class of 2018 parents will be meeting at MHS in the commons on January 26th at 6:30 pm to plan and discuss the Senior Farewell for 2018.
  • TurnAbout Dance is February 4th at 7:00 pm in the commons. Tickets go on sale January 30th and are $10. The theme is: Neon Night.

Things Are Moving for the Class of 2018...

Welcome to a new year at MHS. The school year has started off with great success. There are few informational points that I want to emphasize.


Powder Puff practices begin on September 6th. Junior girls wishing to participate in the September 14th game v. the Seniors must attend at least 2 practices. Junior girls must place their order for a game T-Shirt by September 8th.


Come out for a family night of fun on September 14th at MHS with the Taste of Marquette at 5:00 pm and the Junior/Senior Powder Puff game at 7:30 pm.


All Juniors were presented information in their English classes concerning the opportunity to do Career Shadowing in their chosen area. Applications are due September 15th to the PIE office or in the 11th grade office.


Please be sure to call the 11th grade office if your child is going to be absent from school (636-891-6021). Too many absences and or tardies may result in your child's parking space being revoked.

We Are Coming Down The Stretch...

Friday, December 4th is the deadline for students to submit their form to exempt a 1st Semester Final. The student must have an A in the class prior to the final exam. Exemption forms may be picked up in any of the grade level offices.

Josten's Ring Assembly will be February 17th during 2nd hour. More information will be sent out.

Please encourage your child to start reviewing for their final exams. Many classes will be providing study guides for the exams.

The 2nd semester will begin on January 5, 2016. Have a safe and enjoyable Holiday Break.​

Class of 2018 Communication...

We want to thank our district Bus Drivers and Custodians for all that they do for the Rockwood School District and our students. October recognizes both of these outstanding groups in our school community.


Parent Conferences are Wednesday, October 7th (A-L) and Thursday, October 15th (M-Z) from 4:30 -8:00 pm. Please come out to meet your child's teachers and to learn about their performance in their classes.​

Sophomore parents continue to be involved in the life of your child and MHS. This is an important year for their success and growth. You can't do it by yourself, and we can't do it without you.

The Sophomore Class is looking for parent volunteers to support the concession stand at Freshman, JV, and Varsity football games. Half of the proceeds will go to our Class fund. The first games are on August 24th. Please sign up by going to:

Remember that August 28th will be an Early Release Day for MHS students. School will be dismissed at 12:18 pm. All students must leave the campus immediately. The MHS staff with St. Louis County Police will be going through Emergency & Intruder drill scenarios for safety and security training.

If your child is interested in being part of the Principal Advisory group they may complete an application in the Sophomore office.​
