On Thursday, Feb. 7, the Rockwood Board of Education announced that Dr. Mark Miles has been selected as the district's next superintendent. Dr. Miles officially joins the district on July 1, 2019, upon Superintendent Dr. Eric Knost's retirement.
Dr. Miles is the current superintendent of the Indian Hill Exempted Village School District in Cincinnati, Ohio, a position he has held since 2012. During his seven years of leadership, the school district earned top honors and in 2019 it was recognized as the sixth best public school district in the nation by Niche.
Prior to this position, he served as the deputy superintendent in the Park Hill School District in Kansas City, Missouri, where he provided direction for the district's quality program, strategic planning, K-12 principal supervision and leadership development. Before becoming the district's deputy superintendent, Dr. Miles served as assistant superintendent for school improvement, assistant to the superintendent and as middle school principal. Prior to receiving his doctorate and moving into administrative positions, he was a social studies teacher in the Columbia Public School District in Missouri.
Dr. Miles has shared a letter to our Rockwood school community as a personal introduction. It includes information about his work, his family, and plans for transition to his new role.

School Board President Loralee Mondl noted that the Board of Education voted unanimously in support of Dr. Miles' hire as the district's next superintendent. According to Mondl, the School Board had an impressive group of candidates to consider. An extensive search process began last October and focused on finding the most highly qualified candidate to become Rockwood's next leader.
"We are impressed with Dr. Miles, and we are so pleased that he has agreed to join our school district," she shared. "His education is impressive, along with his history of work in top-rated school districts. His student-centered vision aligns with our school community. It's about our continued focus upon learning, leadership, innovation, and service to our kids."
Mondl went on to thank the Rockwood community. "The Board sincerely appreciates our school community members for their involvement. It was exciting to see the results of our superintendent search survey, along with the input from the focus groups and community meetings. We came together on what was most important and what is best for our students," she shared.
Dr. Miles earned a Doctor of Philosophy and Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis; a Master of Arts degree in political science; and a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary social studies education, all from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
