When Dr. Eric Knost announced his upcoming retirement as Rockwood's superintendent, members of the Rockwood Board of Education immediately started the search for a new leader of our schooldistrict.
According to School Board President Loralee Mondl, it's a responsibility they all take to heart. "Finding the best, most qualified candidate to lead our school district is one of the most important decisions the Rockwood Board of Education will ever make," she shared. "Our first step was to find an independent firm to manage the search."
The Board distributed a RFQ (request for qualifications) to jump start the process and three firms responded. Then, they conducted a thorough analysis of search firm qualifications and processes.
At the outcome, the School Board voted unanimously to hire Missouri School Board's Association (MSBA) to facilitate the superintendent search program.
A special meeting of the School Board was called on Tuesday, Nov. 20, where the Board met with a representative of the search firm to discuss the recruitment process.
During the conversation, Dr. Brent Underwood, MSBA representative, shared that the process will be tailored to the Rockwood school community, with surveys, focus groups and open community meetings in the coming weeks. It will also include a strong recruitment process with the goal of acquiring a pool of top candidates for the School Board's consideration.
Lynne Midyett, Board vice-president, shared that including students in the conversation would be an essential step in developing the leadership profile the Board will utilize during its decision-making. "We have a superintendent that has made a connection with our students," she noted. "It's important that their voices are heard as we move forward."
On Wednesday, MSBA had started the recruitment process with posting a Superintendent Search Flyer in more than 900 publications at the local, state and national level.
According to Dr. Underwood, Rockwood's recruitment process should capture the attention of high-quality candidates. "I'm very excited and ready to get started. Rockwood is a highly rated school district, and I think we'll get going pretty quickly."
