Rockwood South Middle sixth-grade student Madeline Domian has been awarded the Prudential Spirit of Community Award for the state of Missouri.
While a student at Stanton, Maddie mobilized her whole school to help her create care kits for kids undergoing chemotherapy, after her beloved Aunt Katie-Do died from cancer in September 2015.
Maddie researched the needs of children in chemotherapy and asked Stanton Principal Dr. Christine Starnes if she could get students involved in making "chemo care kits."
Maddie and her helpers have assembled more than 200 chemo care kits.
Maddie will receive an engraved Prudential Spirit of Community silver medallion. In May she will travel to Washington, D.C., for several exciting days of recognition events. She will also receive $1,000 and be considered for one of ten national awards.
