All Rockwood Early Childhood teachers are certified with the State of Missouri in Early Childhood and/or Early Childhood Special Education. Many of our teachers have more advanced degrees including National Board Certification! Classrooms are staffed with at least one teacher and one assistant.

Rockwood has developed our own curriculum that is board approved and aligned to the Rockwood Kindergarten curriculum. Our curriculum includes:

• Support for Social /Emotional development, self- regulation and problem solving skills
• Language and literacy curriculum components emphasize the development of oral language, vocabulary, reading and writing for a purpose, phonemic awareness, concepts of print and pre-reading skills
• Discover science curriculum includes exploring, predicting and problem solving
• Art, music, movement, dramatic and imaginative pretend play are an integral part of the program
• Technology – We are preparing the learner of tomorrow through the use of touch –screen computer screens and Smartboards in every classroom.

Young children learn and develop at different rates. Some children will need extra support to learn. Our highly trained teachers pay attention to all aspects of your child’s development.

The Early Childhood department also offers several support systems to meet your child’s individual needs:

• Transitions for children going to kindergarten
