Kindergarten Yard Signs
We have loved seeing our Newest Knights in our building. If you have not already, please return the KME Newest Knights yard sign to the front office ASAP. PTO reuses these signs each year as we welcome each incoming Kindergarten class.
Care Committee
Do you know a Kehrs Mill family who needs some extra love and support? Maybe they are expecting a new baby or maybe they are experiencing the heartbreak of a sick loved one. Our PTO Care Committee can provide some encouragement for those within our amazing Kehrs Mill community. You can email carecommittee.kme@gmail.com to provide the name and details and we'll take care of the rest!

HAIR AND CLOTHING HELP ON PICTURE DAY
If you are willing to help with monitoring hair and clothing on school picture day (September 20th), please contact Pat Betty at 636.891.6050. You can help for the full day or just a half-day.
Dismissal Reminders
Our dismissal procedures are getting better every day, but we are still making some tweaks as we address problems that arise. Please know that we make these rules for the safety of students and it is imperative that you follow these rules so all of our Kehrs Mill Knights remain safe.
Some reminders that we are still seeing problems with include:
- Please stay in your vehicle! Do not get out to let your child out of the car! We had this same dismissal procedure last year with no parents exiting cars and it worked very well. There is no need to exit your car during arrival or dismissal. Children should be exiting on their own and adult support from staff is there if needed with heavy doors.
- Please turn your engines off when children are walking through the lanes! It is a long walk for some students and it is in the best interest of both teachers and students to not be breathing in car exhaust on their walk.
- Please be mindful of where you are parking if you are parking off-campus to pick up your child(ren). These are neighborhoods are not used to having so much traffic. Safety is the number one priority, so please be safe!!
- Bike riders - please be careful as you are exiting Kehrs Mill property. Many students and parents are walking and bike riders need to be mindful of the pedestrians.

Welcome Back Bash!
We are so excited to have the Welcome Back Bash at KME on September 10th. Check out our flyer for important information regarding this very fun community event. New this year is the ability to “purchase” a KME experience. 100% of your $30 Experience purchase price will be donated to our annual operating budget. Our Experience table will open at 6:30 and will also include the ability to bid on the following: "Name the Lane," birthday notes on the marquee, and front row seats at 5th Grade Promotion! We can’t wait to have our community gather on September 10th from 5:30-8:00pm.

A Message from our Music Teacher about Special Chorus
My name is Melody Dotson and I am the music teacher at Kehrs Mill Elementary. I am beyond thrilled to be here and to share my love of music with your children! I am also excited to announce the start of the 2021-2022 Kehrs Mill Special Chorus!
Special Chorus is a performance ensemble where students can develop their musical skills and deepen their love of music. This is also an amazing opportunity for students to build memories with their classmates. We will be meeting every Thursday in the music room at 8:00 a.m. Practices will begin Thursday, September 16th. If Special chorus is something your child is interested in, please read and fill out the handbook form and the KM Music Polo Order Form and turn it in before September 13th.
If you have any questions, you can email me at dotsonmelody@rsdmo.org. I am looking forward to creating beautiful music with our Kehrs Mill students this year! Thank you for supporting your children as they continue their love of music.
Girl Scout Project
Over the summer, Kehrs Mill alumna Rebekah Thompson completed her Girl Scout Gold Award project: a native species garden at Kehrs Mill Elementary!
The garden, which is located by the playground blacktop, includes 5 varieties of native plants that provide food and shelter to many native insects and animals. The garden is to be used as a learning resource to educate scouts, students, and families about the importance of biodiversity and conservation. In addition to the garden, Thompson created a website with activities and information about the plants and animals in the garden. These activities are divided on the website into scout ranks so Girl Scouts can use them to complete their environmental badges. However, these activities can be enjoyed by anyone, and the grade levels corresponding to each scout rank and badge activity are also listed on the website.
The Girl Scouts at Kehrs Mill Elementary have assumed responsibility for caring for the garden, but Thompson says “anyone in the community is welcome to help.” The website includes instructions, sign ups, and schedules to allow people to volunteer to maintain the garden. Thompson says she hopes this garden will be able to fulfill her project goals--increasing knowledge of, concern for, and love of nature--for generations of Knights to come. Watch the video (attached below) to learn more about the garden’s website, or click the link below to explore the site itself. And be sure to visit the Kehrs Mill Native Species Garden--now in bloom!
