What is the age for kindergarten? First grade?
Children must be five-years old prior to August 1 in order to start kindergarten and six-years prior to August 1 to attend first-grade.

When is kindergarten registration?
The online kindergarten registration for the 2023-2024 school year is Tuesday, January 10, 2023, and administrators are asking parents to register as soon as possible to get an accurate idea of how many students we will welcome this year. If you miss these dates, you may register at any time at the school your child will attend. Learn more.

Yes, Rockwood offers tuition-free, full-day kindergarten.

As a Rockwood resident, how do I request that my child be allowed to attend a school different than the one for my assigned attendance area?
All Rockwood schools are known as centers of academic excellence. However, we do offer the option for a child to attend a different attendance area school. This is known as, "Limited School Choice". The Limited School Choice application is available at each school location. An annual application is required, and approval is based upon available space at the requested school. Transportation is not provided by the District. For further information visit the Student Services site.

I live outside the Rockwood School District boundaries. What is the cost of tuition for a non-resident and how do I apply?
The Board approved the following tuition and transportation rates for 2022-2023:
- Elementary school $12,603
- Middle school $12,968
- High school $13,002
The board established the transportation rate at $581.
To apply, a letter of request should be written to the Board of Education and mailed to Becky Conrath, Secretary to the Executive Director of Student Services:

What about Rockwood curriculum? Where can I find information about new curriculum being implemented at various grade levels and content areas?
Curriculum study and writing is a continuous improvement process. Each curriculum document is reviewed on an annual basis and is revised and updated (in-depth year) on a six-year cycle via approval of the Rockwood Board of Education. View the Curriculum Development and Maintenance Schedule.
