Your child will participate in a variety of assessments within the first quarter of the school year to inform teachers about his/her instructional needs. The information from these assessments helps teachers individualize instruction to personalize learning for all students.
● FastBridge Early Literacy Assessment (grades 1-3):
This assessment is administered to students one-to-one with a reading teacher. The test takes approximately 10 minutes per student. Scores are recorded electronically. (All kindergartners will take this test in December.)
● STAR Reading Enterprise and STAR Math Enterprise (Grades 1-5):
The STAR assessments consist of computer-adaptive items designed to provide near-instant feedback on student performance and learning. Each STAR assessment takes approximately 25 minutes to complete.
● Benchmark Assessment System (Grades K-5):
The BAS is administered to students one-to-one with their classroom teacher. The student reads the text both orally and silently and participates in a comprehension conversation. This assessment helps the teacher determine the child’s instructional reading level.
Standardized assessments are just one way to measure student performance. Equally important
assessments include teacher observation, progress reports, daily work, and classroom assessments. All
of these factors need to be considered when evaluating a child’s academic progress.
