Eureka High officials have a game plan for parking at the first football home game of the season Friday night against Hazelwood Central.
Parking in the school parking lot is limited due to construction at Eureka High, so school officials are asking fans to consider parking at nearby Blevins Elementary (25 E. North Street; Eureka 63025) or LaSalle Springs Middle (3300 Highway 109; Wildwood 63038). They can then ride the shuttle bus to the football stadium. School buses serving as shuttles will begin transporting fans at 5:30 p.m.
"If you're coming from the south, we want you to park at Blevins Elementary and ride the shuttle bus from there," said Eureka High Activities Director Gregg Cleveland. "If you're coming down Highway 109 from the north, we hope you'll stop and park at LaSalle Springs Middle School. The shuttle buses will drop off as close to the stadium as you can get."
The parking lot shuttle buses are free of charge. Cleveland said he expects the Eureka High parking lot to be filled up by about 6 p.m.
The shuttles will run continuously from 5:30-7 p.m. They will begin transporting fans back to Blevins and LaSalle Springs at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
"Our parking lot has been reduced by about one-third," said Cleveland. "We will have limited handicapped spaces available this season. Our shuttle service will be a great option for those concerned about having to walk too far. Please consider taking advantage of this service."
Cleveland said this Eureka High football parking plan will apply to every home game.
"Our second home game is homecoming, Sept. 27, and that's also going to be well-attended. Hopefully alumni will get this message about parking. Then our next two games are Marquette and Kirkwood, and those are going to be huge, as well."
All spectators are being asked to enter through the south gate this season.
