Superintendent Comments

In his Superintendent Comments at the Dec. 17, 2024, Board of Education meeting, Dr. Curtis Cain shared the following updates:

  • Dr. Cain addressed the Rockwood educators who attended the meeting.
  • Eureka High Assistant Principal Dr. David Arledge was named the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals 2025 Assistant Principal of the Year. He is now eligible to be considered for the National Association of Secondary School Principals assistant principal of the year award.
  • The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has released the statewide Annual Performance Reports (APRs) for the 2023-2024 school year. Rockwood scored 88.0 percent, up 3 percent from 2022-2023.
  • The Rockwood School District Strategic Plan Steering Committee held its third meeting at the Administrative Annex on Dec. 10, as part of the yearlong process to help prepare for a new district strategic plan for 2025-2030. The next community engagement meeting will be held on Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. at Lafayette High.
  • Rockwood invites our parents, community members and high school students to participate in a Community Read this winter of “The Anxious Generation" by Jonathan Haidt. Throughout January and February, school librarians will host book discussions for their school or quadrant communities, culminating in a districtwide discussion on Feb. 13 at Marquette High.
  • This year’s Rockwood School District holiday eCard features the work of Eureka High junior Olivia Royal. More than 170 talented artists from around Rockwood submitted entries into this year's contest, and I had the honor of choosing the winning design.
  • As we head into winter break, I want to wish all of our Rockwood students, staff members and families a happy holiday season full of fun, relaxation and quality time with loved ones. In this video, I join the Vox Solus a cappella group from Lafayette High to wish everyone Happy Holidays.

There were six patrons who spoke to the need for higher teacher salaries and the importance of investing in Rockwood teachers.

Annual Audit, Management Reports and Year-End Financial Statements - The Board approved the 2023-2024 audit report, post-audit report and Secretary of the Board Report (ASBR). Rockwood received the highest-level audit opinion, an unmodified opinion, during its recent independent financial audit conducted by the certified public accounting firm Kerber, Eck & Braeckel (KEB) LLP. Brian Wuertz, the partner-in-charge of KEB's St. Louis group, provided the auditor’s report. View the reports and narratives relating to the district's financial condition.

Board Discussion

Budget Update - Board members and Cabinet members heard a financial update for 2024-2025 and reviewed the initial 2025-2026 budget projection. The district is projecting a balanced budget in FY26, with estimates indicating revenue will remain relatively constant. Read the update.
