COPE: Board of Education Student Advisory Meeting

The Board of Education held its final Student Advisory meeting of the 2024-2025 school year last night. The Student Advisory Group started during the 2023-2024 school year and consists of sophomores and juniors from each of the four high schools and the Pathways Wellness Center, selected by their building principals.

The group meets once a quarter and is an opportunity for Board members to connect with, and hear directly from, Rockwood students. At last night's meeting, graduates were honored with a plaque and new members for the next school year were welcomed. The group also discussed their feedback related to the district's new strategic plan, what they liked about participating in the Student Advisory Group as well as ideas for improving the discussions and increasing awareness across the district.

Board of Education Awards Ceremony

The Rockwood community came together to recognize more than 350 students and staff members for their accomplishments at the May 15 Board of Education Awards Ceremony. We honored our middle and high school students and staff during the evening.

Policy Revision

The Board of Education approved revisions to Policy 3170 - Purchasing, which will take effect on July 1, 2025. The key changes are as follows:

  • The threshold for purchases that require Board of Education approval has increased from $7,500 to $25,000. The previous limit had remained unchanged for over 25 years and no longer aligned with the current economic landscape, often leading to administrative steps for relatively routine purchases. This revision is intended to streamline procurement processes and reduce the administrative burden on staff, allowing more time to focus on core responsibilities. It is also in line with board approval thresholds at other area school districts.
  • Purchases related to insurance claims are now exempt from Board of Education approval when the district's only financial responsibility is the deductible.
  • The superintendent's authority to approve emergency purchases has been raised from $25,000 to $100,000.

These changes support the district's new strategic plan, which prioritizes improving operational efficiency by streamlining processes to better support students and staff.

**Board meeting agendas are available to view the Saturday before regularly scheduled Board meetings on BoardDocs.**
