Equity Resolution
Whereas, the Rockwood R-VI School District (the “District”) is known throughout the St. Louis region, State of Missouri, and beyond as an exemplar school district;
Whereas, the District’s mission statement is “We do whatever it takes to ensure all students realize their potential;”
Whereas, the District Board of Education has been and continues to be committed to helping all students thrive;
Whereas, the District has been and remains committed to understanding and valuing history as it affects our institutional viability and vitality;
Whereas, the District believes that, as an exemplar educational institution, it must continuously, intentionally, consciously, and deliberately reimagine and create an educational system that centers on equity;
Whereas, the District has and continues to believe in the fundamental right to a free, appropriate education whereby all District students thrive academically, emotionally, and socially;
Whereas, the District has been and continues to be committed to identifying conscious and unconscious biases and eliminating barriers to educational achievement in our schools;
Whereas, the District has and will continue to create policies and practices that are rooted in empathy, fairness, and justice;
Therefore, be it resolved, on this 23rd day of July 2020, that the District, by and through its Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools, will continue to relentlessly pursue systemic improvements to policies, practices, and programs and continue to provide educational opportunities to ensure that every student and staff member, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, perceived sexual orientation, genetic information, marital status, age, national origin, disability or economic status, can fully realize the District’s mission statement and thrive in the District and beyond.
Be it further resolved that the District’s Board of Education believes the District’s work can only be realized by ensuring that teachers, administrators, students, parents, and community members organize in unity to collectively continue to implement the District’s mission.
