The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) improves teaching and student learning. National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) are highly accomplished educators who meet high and rigorous standards.

Currently there are 155 National Board Certified Teachers in the Rockwood School District. Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review. NBPTS offer 25 certificates that cover a variety of subject areas and student development levels. A National Board Teacher Certificate is valid for five years with the opportunity to renew certification. Rockwood supports teachers pursuing National Board Certification with the following:

  • Monthly cohort meetings
  • Access to video and microphone equipment
  • Certified Candidate Support Provider (CSP)
  • One sub day per year during candidacy
  • Option to pursue graduate credit

Please visit the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards for more information. Revisions are being made to the certification process, and interested candidates will need to stay informed on any updates through the NBPTS website.
