Vape Free Schools Initiative: Partnership with the American Lung Association
In light of the startling fact that about one in five high school students vape or use other
tobacco/nicotine products, we want to help our schools be a healthier space for all of our
students and set them up for a lifetime of success. This includes helping our students live
nicotine-free and tobacco-free lives. In order to navigate the vaping epidemic, Rockwood School
District is partnering with the American Lung Association to provide education and support.
The American Lung Association will alternate between Rockwood schools, depending on
student need, to offer education on nicotine dependence. This will be done in a small group
format, lasting approximately 40-45 minutes. This course addresses:
. Tobacco use, including e-cigarettes/vaping
. Nicotine dependence
. Establishing healthy alternatives
. Making the change to be free of nicotine and all tobacco products
