Dear Rockwood School Community,
The 2020-2021 school year has been like no other as we contend with a global pandemic while providing quality educational services. We continue to support the health and safety of our students, staff members, parents, and community of the Rockwood School District. Since the emergence of COVID-19, District representatives have collaborated extensively with the St. Louis County Department of Public Health, Superintendents and healthcare professionals throughout the St. Louis region, and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. In considering the return to our schools and classrooms, we must balance the risk of transmission of COVID-19 with the significant negative impact of school closure upon the social, emotional, behavioral, and physical health of our children. While we cannot remove all risk of infection, we will take appropriate steps to protect our students and staff and optimize their health and well-being.
What I have learned throughout my career in public education is that it takes all of us – teachers, staff, parents, and community members - to provide an extraordinary learning environment for our students. We must strive to be our very best each day as we create memorable and meaningful educational experiences for our students in academics, arts, and athletics. Rockwood has earned a reputation for excellence in education. Together, I am confident we will continue this tradition of excellence as we focus upon The Way Forward, our strategic plan that guides our continuous improvement efforts.

I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve our community as the Rockwood Superintendent and look forward to seeing you in our classrooms and in our community.
Mark T. Miles, Ph.D.
