Managing and Vetting AI Resources

Rockwood's Chief Information Officer is responsible for guiding the district’s use of AI, including the creation of guidelines, regulations, policies and alignment to existing district policies and regulations in regards to AI use for staff and students. The Technology and Curriculum departments collaborate with the Chief Information Officer throughout these processes. 

Artificial intelligence may be featured in a standalone product or as part of an existing product. When vetting both types of resources, the district will consider how AI components will be utilized to amplify the teaching and learning process, what data protections are in place, what outcomes are possible using AI components and what AI features can or cannot be managed at the district level.

Approved AI Resources

The resources below are currently approved AI tools with information about who may access them and how they are managed by the Rockwood School District.

Chat for Schools by Skill Struck	High School Staff and Students	Includes data protections and increased visibility for student use
MagicSchool AI	All Staff	Students can access staff-created chatbots without an account and without entering in personal information. A student data privacy agreement is in place for this resource.

Khanmigo	All Staff	Not managed by the district
NotebookLM	All Staff, High School Students	Includes enterprise-level data protections. Any data entered into NotebookLM is not used for AI training and is not reviewed by human reviewers at Google.

There is an increasing number of resources that now contain AI components. Below are currently approved district resources that contain AI components.

Canva	All Staff and Students	AI components (image- and text-based) can be managed at the district level. Protections are in place to block inappropriate use.
Formative	Middle School and High School Staff	AI components used for assessment item creation.
Canvas	All Staff and Students	AI components and integrations can be managed at the district level.
