All Rockwood schools are known as centers of academic excellence. However, you may submit a request for your child to attend a different attendance area school. This is known as, "Limited School Choice". The Limited School Choice request form is available at each school location. If the request is approved, transfers occur at the beginning of a semester. Applications for first semester must be received between February 1 and May 31 of the preceding school year. Applications for second semester must be received two weeks prior to the end of the first semester of the current school year. Once a transfer is approved, the student must remain at the Choice school for a minimum of one semester. Transportation is not provided by the District.

Any child of a full-time Rockwood employee is eligible to attend school in the Rockwood district. Request forms are available by contacting Felicia Smith, Secretary to the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, at 636-733-2186.

Rockwood offers full-day and half-day preschool options, as well as Mini-Preschool, which allows a school opportunity for those children that are not yet age-eligible for preschool.  Parents as Teachers is another free service that provides information, support and encouragement that parents need to help their children from ages from prenatal to kindergarten entry during the crucial early years of life.

Child care is available through the School-Age Adventure Club program.

Yes, Rockwood offers tuition-free, full-day kindergarten.

Children must be five years old prior to August 1 of a given school year in order to start kindergarten and six years prior to attend first grade.

The online kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year is Tuesday, January 9, 2024, and administrators are asking parents to register as soon as possible to get an accurate idea of how many students we will welcome this year.

If you miss these dates, you may register at any time at the school your child will attend.

Curriculum study and writing is a continuous improvement process. Each curriculum document is reviewed on an annual basis and is revised and updated (in-depth each year) on a six-year cycle via approval of the Rockwood Board of Education.

Parents of children 3-5 years who suspect their child may have a delay should contact David Herod, Director of Early Childhood, at 636-891-6213.

Parents of children 5-21 years who reside in Rockwood and have students that are home-schooled or attend a private/parochial school in Rockwood should contact Special School District to inquire about the special education process at 314-989-8239.

Parents of children 5-21 years who attend public school and suspect a delay should contact their student's teacher or counselor to inquire about the special education process. Contact Jamie Smith, Coordinator of Special Education, at 636-733-2153 for additional assistance.

Rockwood provides a wide range of programs for students who are identified as gifted. At the elementary level, students attend the Center for Creative Learning one day per week and also receive gifted resource services at their home school. At the middle school level, students are offered a course titled Academic Stretch. Academic Stretch is paired in the block schedule with an accelerated Language Arts course.

The middle schools also offer Challenge classes in all major content areas. At the high school level, gifted resource teachers support students in a variety of ways, including helping to plan their high school course of study, investigating summer and independent study opportunities, and supporting the college application process. The high schools also offer a wide range of Honors and AP classes.

The Rockwood Board of Education typically meets the first and third Thursdays of each month. The first session of the month is a workshop meeting, during which patrons may attend and address any issue on the agenda. At the second meeting, patrons may comment on any subject. Meetings may be combined in July and December.
