Rockwood is committed to ensuring students experience an engaging, rigorous mathematics curriculum that can be personalized to meet individual student needs. As students enter middle school, Rockwood mathematics instruction is intended to build on prior knowledge and develop a deep conceptual understanding of essential mathematics content.
The Ramp Up to Math 6/7 online summer course was developed to better meet student needs and provide families with more options for placement.
This course provides current fifth-graders who want to take Integrated Math 6/7 during 6th grade with an opportunity to practice important prerequisite mathematical concepts and skills to prepare for the Integrated Math 6/7 course. Students who select Integrated Math 6/7 and have 3 or fewer Developing STAR Math Domains (highlighted in the placement letter) will be automatically enrolled in Ramp Up to Math 6/7 during the course selection process.

What is the Integrated Math 6/7 course that is available next school year?
This is a compacted math course that covers a full year of sixth-grade math content and half of seventh-grade math content. Students who choose to enroll in Integrated Math 6/7 will be learning at a faster pace as math concepts are compacted into a shorter time frame. What is the online summer course titled Ramp Up to Math 6/7?
Ramp Up to Math 6/7 is an online summer course that prepares students who were recommended to take Math 6 to receive extra support and practice of key skills in order to prepare them for the compacted Math 6/7 course instead. Upon successful completion of this online summer course, students will be enrolled in Integrated Math 6/7 for the upcoming school year. Who should take the summer Ramp Up to Math 6/7 course?
This online course is for students who enrolled in Ramp Up. It is for students who are identified as needing extra support for being prepared for Integrated Math 6/7 as sixth graders.

When is the summer Ramp Up to Math 6/7 offered and what is the time requirement?
Ramp Up to Math 6/7 is offered in an online learning format. It is available during Summer Academy, which takes place from June 8-July 7, 2023 (four weeks).
Throughout the four weeks, students work at their own pace at anytime of the day and anywhere they have internet access. Thus, students can complete coursework as it fits into their summer schedule. They should expect to spend approximately 60 hours during the four-week timeframe to complete the course.

What will students learn in Ramp Up to Math 6/7?
Ramp Up to Math 6/7 will allow students to strengthen their knowledge of essential fifth-grade math content and prepare them for a compacted course. Instruction will focus on three critical areas. Students will:
- write and evaluate numerical expressions
- perform operations and solve problems with fractions and decimals
- represent and analyze patterns and relationships

How will this online summer course work for students?
Ramp Up to Math 6/7 will utilize Canvas, our district learning management system. The online class will be similar to classroom instruction. Students will:
- View instructional videos
- Complete assignments and upload work to the system
- Take online assessments
- Participate in discussions with classmates and the teacher
- Communicate directly with the teacher if they have questions
- Receive timely feedback on progress

What are the technical requirements of this online summer class?
Students will need to connect to the internet, as well as a computer or a Rockwood-issued Chromebook. District-provided internet access is available if needed.

How will students register for this online summer course?
Students will automatically be enrolled in Ramp Up to 6/7 during the sixth grade course selection process that occurs during the month of March. Questions may be directed to Ms. Marietta Koziatek, Coordinator of 6-12 Math at koziatekmarietta@rsdmo.org.

Personalize Your Math Pathway
Step 1
Choose Math 6 or Math 6/7.
Step 2
If Math 6 is chosen, next choose between:
- Math 7 and Math 8 separately; or
- Math 7/8 (after successful completion of summer work).
If Math 6/7 is chosen, next would be Math 7/8.
Step 3
Algebra 1 or AMPED
Step 4
Geometry, or Geometry in Construction, or Honors Geometry
Step 4
Choose Algebra 2 or Honors Algebra 2 (includes Trigonometry)
Step 5
If Algebra 2 is chosen, next choose between:
- Algebra 3 (can receive college credit through the University of Missouri-St. Louis) and Trigonometry; or
- Algebra 3, Trigonometry, Statistics, or Finite Math (semester courses; choose two).
If Honors Algebra 2 was chosen, next would be Pre-Calculus and/or AP Statistics.
Step 6
If Algebra 2 was chosen:
- and then followed by Algebra 3 and Trigonometry, next would be Pre-Calculus and/or AP Statistics.
- If two semester courses were chosen, next would be two additional courses from the previous list, or AP Statistics.
If Honors Algebra 2 was chosen, followed by Pre-Calculus and/or AP Statistics, next would be AP Calculus and/or AP Statistics.
