Meeting Minutes from December 18, 2023 - Parent Advisory Council

Welcome - Shelley Willott, Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Support Services, welcomed the committee explaining to them that there is also an evening meeting for those who cannot make it during the day. There are also meetings scheduled in April. RLC teacher meetings are in person again this year. Dr. Keri Skeeters is the new Director for Curriculum and Learning. The position was just professional development, but curriculum was added to the position when Renee Trotier retired.
Since we last met -
- Keri is working with Bob Deneau, Chief Information Officer and getting feedback from teachers, curriculum team and instructional team about technology standards.
- Timeline for cycle maintenance - team is working on this timeline. Will not see it right away because there are 20 buildings. Rockwood community is in this committee as well.
- Systematic focus on phonics and phonemic awareness in the new ELA curriculum.
- Today talking about success ready work. MSIP 6 is focused on success ready. Looking at career and technical education programs. Job shadow/exposure is expanding. Ben Hebision, Coordinator of Partners in Education (PIE) is moving forward with this.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) - learning opportunities and challenges. Teachers are using it at the elementary level. At secondary level - concerns on cheating/plagiarism for students. Bob has been on the forefront for this. Training around the state of Missouri learning how to use AI responsibly.

Academic Planning and Course Enrollment 2024-2025
- Counselors sharing the enrollment process for high school with students will be revisited every year.
- Tools to Support Your Planning from the PTO president's forum was shared.
- Shelley reviewed a handout with the group. Course maps were included in the handout.

- 6-years for secondary courses
- 8-years for elementary courses
- White paper for record keeping and continuity
