Review of recent work:
* Wellness Policy 1820 has been approved and released.
Communicated to all via Dr. Hankins in meetings.
Available in Board Docs on the Rockwood Website.
* Exemption forms are being sent in.
Dr. Hankins is assisting in submission of missing forms.
Five single day fundraiser exemptions per year per school.
* Barriers to following wellness policy?
Lack of awareness
Falling back into “old” habits
Goal assessment from May 2024 meeting:
* Elementary
Encourage recess before lunch at all schools,
Blevins has changed their schedule, have others?
25/26 school year schedule planning begins in January.
Dr. Hankins will send out the benefit sheet compiled for this
action.
Teachers/schools provide snacks for students who do not
have a snack at that time. Parents provide snacks. Child Nutrition
does send a list of snacks available for purchase with them.
Family Days perhaps can include Fruit with Friends.
Food as a reward is still happening.
Veteran’s Day Celebrations, the breakfast/food is for veterans and
their plus one.
* Secondary
School stores are improving, more are offering Smart Snacks.
School stores are given Child Nutrition pricing for items.
Food as a reward? Not as common in secondary schools.
* No home baked goods is doing well, we are not seeing home baked items
being brought to school.
* Outside vendors continue coming to schools, although it is not often.
* SSD does use food as reward/incentive.
* Kate Moore reports meeting with PTOs and PTOs want to work with the
snacks which are brought in. This goal is being accomplished, better than its
ever been. There is a meeting scheduled with PTO in November, Kate
will bring the options Child Nutrition offers. PTO has an end of the year
conference with outside vendors, we will ask that they bring their healthy options.
* Self Assessment Tool and Smart Snack Guidelines should be used by school stores.
Amy Wehr sent out the Smart Snack Guidelines information earlier this year. Kate Moore will look at the Self Assessment Tool to
ensure the tool is appropriate for PTO/School stores.
* Every three years an assessment is required. The next assessment will be for
the 2025-2026 school year. Each assessment is building specific. The
assessments will be filled out as completely as possible at the district level
to ensure accuracy.
* We have Employee Wellness. Perhaps we can include Student Wellness using
the wellness people already in place in each building?
* Easily measurable goals are needed to show progress for health and wellness.
* We would like to include Wellness in the CSIP.
* Farmington is one of the model schools for the State of Missouri WSCC.
* We have reached out to DESE (Jimmy Hale) for examples of including wellness
in CSIP
