Rockwood Community Connectors
Rockwood is looking for parents, volunteers and community members to be a part of the inaugural class of Rockwood Community Connectors. This is a nine-month program to provide district patrons with a behind-the-scenes look at how the district operates. Participants will have an in-depth look at the resources, people and planning it takes to operate one of the largest school districts in the state.
Sessions will be during the day for some topics, and other topics will be covered in evening sessions. If you are a taxpayer in the Rockwood School District, we invite you to apply!
Program Highlights
- Take an in-depth look at how and why decisions are made - from snow day decisions to new curriculum implementation to how to make our schools safer - and more!
- Enjoy fun, immersive experiences, including an interactive, school-spirit-filled bus tour across the district, sitting behind the wheel of a school bus, serving lunch in a cafeteria and sweeping floors alongside our dedicated custodians.
- Learn where our funding comes from and, more importantly, where it goes.
- Explore unique programs that equip students with job-ready skills, including nursing, business, the trades and more.
- Grapple with the challenges facing public schools across the country - changing demographics, staffing shortages, inadequate funding, aging facilities, student attendance and more.
- Leverage opportunities to ask questions of key administrators responsible for curriculum, safety, technology, transportation, facilities, finance, communications and special education.
- Engage in exclusive Q&A sessions with district leadership, including the superintendent and members of the Board of Education.
- Build relationships and understand diverse perspectives in the community by learning alongside other parents, business owners and citizens.
- Participate in a service project designed to impact one or more of our schools in a positive way.
Long-Term Opportunity
Once a participant graduates from the program, they’ll join our Rockwood Community Connectors alumni group and will be encouraged to stay engaged with the district, provide feedback on the program and attend special events alongside future cohorts.
