The Crisis of Perfection: Teens and Anxiety: Thursday, March 5th at 7:00pm, LHS Theater 

Parents, please join us on Thursday, March 5th at 7:00pm for a discussion by Cari McKnight of West County Psychological Associates on teens who feel the pressures of performance, social media, anxiety, and learning how to cope. Junior Parent Meeting: Monday, March 30th, 6:30-7:30pm, LHS Theater

Tim Eggleston, our admission representative for the University of Missouri - Columbia, will be giving a College 101 presentation to our Juniors and their parents in the LHS theater. Mr. Eggleston will present on how to determine individual criteria for college choice, college fit, the application process, financial aid, resume building, and much more. Please join us and leave feeling better prepared for the college planning process. 


ACT Prep Class:

LHS will offer one more ACT Prep class this school year. It will be for the June 13th test and will meet May 26-29 from 8:00am-12:00pm. For more information, be sure to visit the LHS Test Prep website or contact Cheryl Hermach at hermachcheryl@rsdmo.org.


Junior Meetings with College and Career Counselors:

Now is the time for juniors to begin meeting with their College and Career Counselor to communicate post-high school plans. Juniors can go to room 121 and Mrs. Hagemeier with assist them with making an appointment with either Ms. Wengler (A-K) or Mrs. Dusenberry (L-Z). Whether the plan is university, community college, trade school, military, or employment let us help you get the wheels in motion.


College Representative Visits: 

College Representatives from many different colleges and universities visit LHS throughout the year. To see when college visits are taking place, please click on this link. Any student wishing to meet with a College Representative to learn more about their school, must sign up in the College & Career Office (Room 121) no later than 8:15am the day of the scheduled visit.


Testing Accommodations:
IEP and 504 accommodations do not cover accommodations for College Board exams (PSAT, SAT, AP) or the ACT. If you have questions about accommodations for these exams please contact the LHS Test Coordinator, Jessica Brawner, at brawnerjessica@rsdmo.org

They’re awarded paid summer internships with local nonprofits and participate in a national leadership summit in Washington, D.C. The Student Leaders Summit focuses on skill building and creating a more civically engaged society.

Hello Parents!

Below is information about upcoming events and things happening within our office. Be sure to check out our website for additional information, various forms, and a calendar with important dates. If you have any questions about the below information, please contact us. 

2nd Semester Schedules: 

  • Monday, November 25th at 8:00am: 2nd Semester Schedules became available for viewing on Infinite Campus
  • Monday, November 25th to Monday, December 16th until 3:30pm: If a student would like to make a semester course change request, they need to fill in the online Course Change Request Form before the deadline on Monday, December 16th at 3:30pm. Counselors will notify students via email if they have questions or will send a pass to speak with students about their requests as needed. NO appointments will be made with counselors during this time in regards to schedule changes. Any year-long course or level changes need to be approved by grade-level principals before a change can be made by a counselor. The form for year-long course and level change requests can be found in the Guidance Office (Room 123), within all four grade-level offices, or on the LHS Guidance & Counseling website (in “Forms & Applications” on the left). 
  • Monday, January 6th: School Resumes and 2nd semester begins. NO changes will be made to any schedules at this point.

Senior Option:

In order for 12th grade students to be considered for Senior Option for 2nd semester, students will need to fill in the Google Form, as well as, print a page to be signed by a parent. The signed form needs to be turned in to the Senior Office (261) by Monday, December 9th at 4:00pm.

Rockwood’s Early College Partnership: 

Applications for the 2020-2021 Rockwood Early College Partnership (ECP) are now available. For more information and to access the application, visit the ECP website. Applications are due on Monday, February 3, 2020. Those interested in learning more about the program should plan to attend one of the following Informational Sessions: 

  • Thursday, December 5th, 6:30-7:30pm, St. Louis Community College-Wildwood, Multipurpose Room
  • Wednesday, December 11th, 6:30-7:30pm, Rockwood Summit High School, Flex Room 

Finals Week Schedule:

  • Monday, December 16th: Regular full-day schedule 
  • Tuesday, December 17th: 5th hour Final (8:28-10:28); Altered full-day schedule
  • Wednesday, December 18th: 1st hour Final (8:28-10:28) & 2nd hour Final (10:28-12:38); Dismissal at 12:38
  • Thursday, December 19th: 3rd hour Final (8:28-10:28) & 4th hour Final (10:38-12:38); Dismissal at 12:38
  • Friday, December 20th: 6th hour Final (8:28-10:28) & 7th hour Final (10:38-12:38); Dismissal at 12:38

Note for A+ Program Students:

If your student is in the A+ Program, remember that they must have 95% attendance to remain eligible. If your student exempts a final exam and does not come to school, it will count against their attendance.  Please be aware of this. 

ACT Prep Class:

LHS will offer two more ACT Prep classes this school year. One will be for the April 8th test, and it will meet Tuesday evenings, as well as, Wednesdays and Thursdays either before or after school. The other Prep Class will be for the June 13th test and will meet May 26-29 from 8:00am-12:00pm. For more information, be sure to visit the LHS Test Prep website or contact Cheryl Hermach at hermachcheryl@rsdmo.org.

South Tech:

Any Sophomore or Junior interested in attending South Tech next year should submit their application materials as soon as possible. Program spots fill up quickly! For more information about the programs offered and to submit an application online, visit southtechnical.org. See your counselor for more information.

Mid-Year Reports to Colleges:

Seniors applying to Common Application schools will have a mid-year (7th semester) transcript and report automatically sent from LHS in January to those colleges that require one. If a non-Common Application school is requesting a mid-year transcript, please complete another application data sheet (yellow form) indicating the schools. We don’t automatically know to do this. Contact Ms. Wengler (A-K) or Mrs. Dusenberry (L-Z) if you have questions or stop by the College & Career Office (Room 121).

WorkKeys Assessment: January 22 & 24

Is your senior student planning on entering the workforce immediately after high school? We are offering our senior students the opportunity to take the WorkKeys assessment.  Please visit the LHS testing website for more information.

2nd Semester Schedule Changes 

Monday, November 25th at 8:00am: 2nd Semester Schedules will become available for viewing on Infinite Campus


Monday, December 16th by the end of the day: Completed Cadet Teaching Applications for 2nd semester are due to the Guidance Office (Room 123) 


Monday, November 25th to Monday, December 16th until 3:30pm: If a student would like to make a semester course change request, they need to fill in the online Course Change Request Form during this time. The online form can be found on the LHS Guidance & Counseling website or via the QR code below. Counselors will notify students via email if they have questions or will send a pass to speak with students about their requests as needed. “ANGST” Showing: Wednesday, November 6th at 6:00pm in Room 137 
Lafayette with be hosting a showing of the Indieflix documentary “Angst”. This showing is free and open to anyone in the Lafayette community! According to this documentary, “Anxiety is the precursor to so many mental health challenges. By opening a dialogue and normalizing (not trivializing) anxiety we can help each other and ourselves. In the process we may positively affect homelessness, addiction, suicide and a host of other issues.” For more information and to watch the trailer visit angstmovie.com.

South Tech Open House: Thursday, November 7th from 5:00-7:00pm
Did you know that Junior and Senior students can elect to take Career & Technical Education courses through South Tech High School while still being a student at LHS? To see the programs South Tech has to offer, parents and students are invited to attend an Open House on Thursday, November 7th. This is the best opportunity for students to meet the teachers and visit the classrooms. There will be current students present to show off their projects and answer questions. Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB): Friday, November 15th
The ASVAB Career Exploration Program includes tests and activities that help students identify their interests and provides information about their verbal skills, math skills, and science and technical skills. The ASVAB is available to any sophomore, junior, or senior who registers. Registration is available in room 162 and must be completed by November 8th. 

Senior Option:
Second semester Senior Option forms will be available beginning November 11th. In order for students to be considered for Senior Option, students will need to fill in the Google Form, as well as, print a page to be signed by a parent. The signed form needs to be turned in to the Senior Office (261) by Monday, December 9th at 4:00pm.

College & Career Info Night: Thursday, September 5th, 6:30-8: 30 pm, LHS Theater
Join the College and Career department on September 5th to gain information on how to most effectively plan for your child’s future. We’ll cover relevant college and career topics and help you get on track for this busy year. Topic includes: The Selective College Admission Process, The ABC’s of Choosing a College, Scholarships, Writing a Winning College Admission Essay, Tackling the Tests, STEM Careers, Components of the Application, Fine Arts College Admission, The Military, and Athletic Recruiting.

UMSL ACP Registration: Closes Sunday, September 8th
The UMSL Advanced Credit Program (ACP) is a dual credit program that offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credits and become familiar with the college experience while still in a high school setting. For a list of the LHS courses offering ACP credit, visit this website. To register or learn more about dual credit transferability visit UMSL’s website. The last day for students to register is Sunday, September 8th. Parents/guardians of students who register have until September 10th to provide parent approval. 

PreACT: Tuesday, September 10th
On Tuesday, September 10th all sophomore students will participate in the PreACT.  Exam details are listed below. Please read this Parent Letter from the district assessment office for more information.
  • Date: Tuesday, September 10th
  • Time: Periods 2, 4, & partial FLEX
  • Location: Report by the last name
    • A-G – Multipurpose Room
    • H-Z – Back Gym
  • Bring: Two #2 pencils & calculator
  • Students are to report to their testing location immediately upon arrival atto school.  Students should leave cell phones & backpacks in their lockers. 
Rockwood-Parkway College Fair: September 16th, 6:00-8: 00 pm00pm, Queeny Park
Over 100 college representatives will be present to meet with all area high school students and parents at the Rockwood-Parkway College Fair to answer questions. Students should pre-register for this program before attending in order to save time at the event. By taking a couple of minutes to pre-register at www.strivefair.com, students will receive a barcode with their information (GPA, test scores, intended major, etc) that ALL the college representatives will want when you visit their tables. 

A+ Program: Senior registration deadline is Wednesday, September 25th. 
The deadline for seniors to register for the A+ Schools Program is Wednesday, September 25th.   All paperwork must be turned in to the A+ Office (123) no later than 3:00 pm3:00pm on the 25th. To learn more about the A+ program and to download the enrollment forms please visit the A+ website or contact our A+ Coordinator, Jessica Brawner, at brawnerjessica@rsdmo.org

PSAT: Wednesday, October 16th
The PSAT will take place during the school day on October 16th and is open to any 10th or 11th grade student that registers. Registration will take place online, September 9th - 22nd. The cost for the test is $20 which can be paid for with a credit or debit card. We have a limited number of exams available so please place your order early to ensure that you get an exam!  If you need registration assistance or have any questions about the PSAT, please visit the LHS testing website or email our Test Coordinator, Jessica Brawner, at brawnerjessica@rsdmo.org

ACT Prep Class:
The ACT Prep class for the October 26, 2019 test begins September 17th. Be sure to get your registration in ASAP since the class fills up quickly. Registration materials for the class to prepare students for the December 14, 2019 test will be available as soon as the October class is full. Registration materials are available in the Guidance and Counseling Office (123) or in room 97.  

Financial Aid Night: 
Save the Date! The Financial Aid Night will take place on Monday, October 21st at LHS beginning at 6:00 pm.6:00pm. More information to follow.
