Dear Lafayette Students and Families:

We are looking forward to welcoming you back for the 2020-2021 school year.  Although we are virtual this quarter, the excitement and fire for students to return and for our first day together still burns bright.  While this year has presented us with its fair share of challenges to navigate, I am also looking forward to the opportunities that will be available to everyone. I am excited for new ideas and growth while maintaining high standards for our students and staff.  Being a Lancer means something special to us, and I am confident that we will all rise to the occasion.  We have high expectations and standards for our students and staff because we believe they are worth it.  Everything we do, we do for our kids.

As we look forward to starting our classes on August 24, I would be remiss if I did not mention that along with the excitement to be with our students, there will also be a certain amount of nervousness.  I assure you that our staff is committed to learning and growing, but we will need your patience and grace as we strive to continually improve and get this right.  I will be honest with you, we will not have all the answers right away because this is a new format and system for many, if not all of us.  However, it is the love for kids, for teaching, for connecting and learning that will allow us to rise.  The other day I was reflecting back to the beginning of the summer when many restaurants were able to re-open after having been closed for weeks.  In one of my daily reads I came across an article that stated if you were someone who was going to visit a restaurant or business that is opening up, to please be patient with them as they will undoubtedly have new systems in place and a whole new way of doing things.  I get that.  I did eventually go to a local restaurant, and I could tell they were nervous; I could tell they did, in fact, have all new systems in place, some that were unfamiliar to me. I was slightly annoyed that I could not make my own Diet Coke with just the right ratio of crushed ice.  However, I took a deep breath and was understanding of all that goes into making a system work, and I was okay.  And, we, too will be okay.  We are Lancers, and our school and community matter to us!

Listed below are some logistics and technical information we want to make sure you have.  You will also be receiving information from your grade level principal as they will be instrumental in partnering with you and your child.

  • Lancer Return Day

  • In preparation for the first day of school (Monday, Aug 24), we ask that all students please log onto their Chromebook prior to the first day of school and update their Chromebook.  If a student is having difficulty with their Chromebook, contact the Technology Help Desk:   Technology Help Desk Link or call 636-733-1111.

  • Please reference this document for a list of Lafayette Student Activities, Clubs and Organizations

  • Daily schedule

  • Accessing classes on the first day of school: When students open their browser on their Chromebook, Canvas will come up on the first tab; they will be automatically logged in and have access to their courses.  Zoom links for each class will be located in the course resources.  To get to course resources, click on Course Information on the home page (located at the bottom of the page).  Next, click on course resources.  The Zoom link for your class will be located there.  Students will use that link to join that specific class during the scheduled time it meets.

  • Click on Course Information (highlighted in blue)

  • Next, click on Course Resources
  • Parents can find information about access to their student’s course work by visiting Canvas information online  on the Rockwood website.

  • Starting August 24, 2020, attendance will be taken each day in all classes with the exception of study hall.  If your child will be out for a specific reason, and you know they will not be in the live session(s), please call the attendance line at 636-733-4115.

  • Material Distribution Days

    • Tues., 8/25 (students last name A - L)
    • Wed., 8/26 (students last name M - Z)
    • Time: 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    • Place: Lafayette High School Commons

By Monday, August 24, teachers will communicate with their students if textbooks or other materials are required for class. Those items that are not available online will need to be retrieved from school on the 25th and 26th. Only students needing textbooks or materials need to come to school on these days. Please attend on the day assigned by alphabet so we are better able to adhere to social distancing guidelines. At the distribution, all materials will be “checked out” to the student and are to be returned upon completion of the course. Please note that masks will be required and all entrants must complete a Covid-19 Self Report Form prior to entering the building.

If there is anything we can do at this time to assist you or your child, please let us know.

Message from Technology Department

May 21, 2020 School Permanent Link to Post

Dear Parents,
The Technology Department thanks you for your patience and understanding throughout the Alternative Learning Plan (ALP).   This message contains information regarding mobile hotspots, support options over the summer, and the end of year report cards.

Mobile Hotspots: Bring to school when we return in person
A record number of students have enrolled in Rockwood Summer Academy and will participate in online summer school.  To support our students with their learning, all families that received a mobile hotspot from the district may keep it over the summer.  We ask that you return the hotspot, power adapter and box to school with your student the first day we are back in person.    If your student is graduating this year, and you have no other students in your home, please return the mobile hotspot to one of the repair sites the week of June 2nd OR contact me via a reply to Rockwood CIO to schedule a date, time and location to drop off the equipment.

Online Resources:  Some will remain available over the summer
Some of our regular online resources used in class, such as Big Ideas Math, will also remain available for student use over the summer.

Students Entering Ninth Grade in August
We understand that the pick up of belongings is optional.  If you plan to pick up belongings from your student's middle school, your eighth (8th) grade student should return their current Chromebook and power adapter at that time.  They will receive a new Chromebook for use during high school at that time.  If they cannot find the power adapter, we will assess a $10 fine via Destiny.  You may bring cash/check (payable to Rockwood School District) in an envelope with the student's name on it or you may pay the fine at a later time via InTouch.  If you do not attend one of the pick up days at your child's middle school, you will receive information later this summer about when and where your student will receive their ninth (9th) grade Chromebook.

Repair Sites for Summer  Open June 2, 2020 – August 6, 2020
Due to maintenance projects in many of our schools, we will have two repair sites for the summer.  Repair sites will be closed the week of May 25 – 29, 2020.

Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays only
Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  and  12:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Babler Elementary School Main Entrance
School address:  1955 Shepard Rd., Wildwood 63038
Main entrance is on the Highway 109 side of the building.
Kellison Elementary School Main Entrance
School address: 1626 Hawkins Rd., Fenton 63026
Main entrance is on the side of the building facing Hawkins Rd.

Technology Help Desk    Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.   (636)733-1111
The Technology Help Desk is available to answer questions and perform limited troubleshooting via the telephone.  If a help desk team member is unable to resolve your issue, a ticket will be created and assigned to the team member best suited to resolve it.  Students may directly create a help desk ticket using Incident IQ (iiQ)
Report Cards Available June 2 - 10, 2020
Report cards will be available on the Infinite Campus parent portal June 2 - 10, 2020.
  • Send an email if you do not have an Infinite Campus parent portal account
  • If you do not remember your account information, use the appropriate link on the parent portal site, e.g. Forgot Password.
  • Print or save your child's report card to your device prior to the end of the day June 10, 2020 because they will not be available after that date.
  • Contact your child’s school to request a printed copy of the report card if you do not have access to a computer.
Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
