Do you know if your student has had the Meningococcal vaccine and the Tdap booster required before 8th grade?
The State of Missouri immunization requirements for school attendance now include two vaccines required before 8th grade:
- Meningococcal vaccine [bacterial meningitis/meningococcal disease]
- Tdap [tetanus/diphtheria/whooping cough] booster.
This is a Missouri State Statute, required by law, not just a Rockwood district policy. Immunization records must be up to date before the first day of school, August 12, 2019.
Many students have already received these vaccines during a routine check-up, usually around age 11. Those records do not automatically come to school from your doctor; parents must provide a copy. You can view what we currently have on file for your child through the parent portal of Infinite Campus, under the Health option.
Please check with your doctor now regarding your child's immunization status. If he/she has already received these vaccines, but it doesn't show in Infinite Campus, send an updated shot record (scan & e-mail, U.S. mail, fax or paper copy) to LSMS as soon as possible. If he/she has not yet received these vaccines, please make an appointment and turn it in before the end of 7th grade. As you can imagine, new vaccine requirements pose a logistical challenge for parents, pediatricians and school nurses in during the summer. Please don't wait until the last minute!
If your child qualifies for a legal exemption, the original, signed exemption document must be on file at school.
Let us know if you have any questions, or need assistance to get these immunizations for your child. Thank you for looking into this promptly!
