Ramp Up to Math 7/8

This is a compacted math course the covers half of the seventh-grade math content and a full year of eighth-grade math content. Students who choose to enroll in Integrated Math 7/8 will be learning at a faster pace as math concepts are compacted into a shorter time frame. This online summer course prepares students for Integrated Math 7/8. Upon successful completion of this online summer course, students will be enrolled in Integrated Math 7/8 for the upcoming school year. This will allow students to take Algebra 1 in 8th grade. This online course is for students currently enrolled in 6th Grade Math who like the challenge of mathematics and have an interest in a STEM-related field. It is recommended that students have grades of As and Bs in previous math courses and score in the 80th percentile or higher on the STAR assessment. Students who excel in online courses are generally organized, motivated, independent and proficient in time-management.

Ramp Up to Math 7/8 is offered in an online learning format. It is available during Summer Academy, which is from June 3 – June 28 in 2024.

Throughout the four weeks, students work at their own pace at anytime of the day and anywhere they have internet access. Thus, students can complete coursework as it fits into their summer schedule. They should expect to spend approximately 60 hours during the four-week timeframe to complete the course.

Ramp Up to Math 7/8 will provide instruction on three critical areas. Students will:

1. develop an understanding of and apply proportional relationships including problems involving percents
2. develop an understanding of absolute value to solve problems involving integers
3. develop an understanding of operations with rational numbers and work with expressions and linear equations

Ramp Up to Math 7/8 will utilize Canvas, our district learning management system. The online class will be similar to classroom instruction. Students will:

• View instructional videos
• Complete assignments and upload work to the system
• Take online assessments
• Participate in discussions with classmates and the teacher
• Communicate directly with the teacher if they have questions
• Receive timely feedback on progress

Students will need to connect to the internet, as well as a computer or a Rockwood-issued Chromebook. District-provided internet access is available if needed.
