What started as a small idea quickly grew into 400 seniors picking up signs for their yards from Lafayette High on Thursday. Senior parent and PTO member Linda Bodker spearheaded the idea of putting signs in the yards of the graduating seniors as a way to recognize them in the midst of the COVID-19 shut down.
“My heart is just breaking for them,” said Bodker, a parent of a graduating senior and member of the PTO.
Bodker floated the idea of yard signs to a few parents, and the idea quickly took off.
Parent and PTO member Deanna Sherman said, “At one point I sat at my kitchen table for eight hours taking orders. We just want to celebrate our kids.”
That is when the decision was made that every student should receive a yard sign.
Advantage Promotional Group provided the signs to the PTO so every senior could display one in their yard.
The group distributed the signs with no contact, loading each car with a sign as they drove by.
“It makes me happy to be out here doing this,” said Bodker. "We are having a blast!”
The PTO also plans to sponsor a parade for the seniors on May 21 at 6:00 p.m. in Lafayette’s parking lot.
