The Rockwood Board of Education
and Superintendent Dr. Mark Miles participated in a board development workshop sponsored by the Missouri School Boards' Association (MSBA) on Thursday. The workshop emphasized the importance of collaboration between the board and the superintendent to improve student achievement and district performance.
Rockwood Board Director Jaime Bayes said MSBA Director of Board Training Janet Tilley did a fantastic job facilitating the training, which was tailored to the Board based on survey reponses its members provided during the superintendent search in the spring.
"The training opportunity was great for our board and Dr. Miles to connect and have deep conversations about the goals that we had when we set out to find a new superintendent and also for us to set goals for this first year," Bayes said.
The training stressed the importance of the Board providing overall district leadership by ensuring current district policies, engaging the community, providing clear expectations through the district's strategic plan, providing budget oversight and implementing practices that ensure a positive collaborative relationship with the superintendent.
"We had time to reflect and then focus on goals that connect to our strategic plan while continuing to deepen our relationships with one another," Bayes said. "We hope to continue working with MSBA to keep our momentum going in this positive direction."
