Students, staff, Rockwood administrators and members of the community held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Eureka Early Childhood Center on Dec. 19.
The center is located in the former Eureka Elementary School building, at 442 W. Fourth Str.
Director Early Childhood Dr. Suzanne Foshage said, "Since 2002, the Rockwood Early Childhood program has been giving children a great start in life. In the beginning, we had one center serving the Rockwood community. Now, we have three centers with the addition of this Eureka location as well as classrooms sprinkled across the district."
Superintendent Dr. Mark Miles and members of the Rockwood School Board were among those in attendance.
Rockwood School Board President Loralee Mondl said, "I believe it's important to recognize this center would not have been possible without the approval of our Rockwood taxpayers. They approved a bond issue to pay for this new early childhood education center. Thank you very much for bringing this new center to life!"
The Rockwood Early Childhood program was named a Missouri School of Character in 2015 and a National School of Character in 2017.
Miles said, "I must acknowledge our Rockwood construction and facilities teams for their work on this important project. It takes a great team to transition an elementary school into an early childhood center, and I'm proud of their hard work."
