Rockwood is improving the process for confirming elementary school student absences. Currently our attendance secretaries make phone calls to parents each morning for students who are marked "unexcused." The new process will align with our secondary schools' procedures.
Starting with the new semester, Jan. 6, 2020, elementary administrators will move to an automated system that will be less time-consuming, thus better for student safety.
Parents/guardians are responsible for notifying the school office of their child's absence by 9:20 a.m. for early start schools and 9:50 a.m. for late start schools. Absences may be reported by telephoning your school's main phone number.
If you leave a message, please include the following: student's name, grade, reason for absence including symptoms (for tracking commonalities), and your name and relationship to the student.
If school officials do not receive notification, the absence is considered "unexcused." The absence will be changed to "excused" only if school officials receive a call or note within three days.
