Dear Members of the Rockwood community:
I am reaching out to notify you that in support of the health of our community, school buildings in Rockwood and other school districts in St. Louis and St. Louis County will remain closed through the end of this school year.
Please note that while our buildings remain closed, education in Rockwood will continue through our Alternative Learning Plan (ALP).
This decision was extremely difficult. The absence of our daily personal interactions in our schools with students and staff is a challenging reality to accept. However, it is imperative that we take bold measures to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and help save lives in our community.
This decision follows recommendations from local health departments and is in collaboration with local government officials. We will also continue to follow their guidance as we make decisions on end-of-school-year events such as prom and graduation ceremonies. Each of our decisions will be made in the best interest of the health and safety of our students, staff, and communities while we do our best to preserve these traditions.
Social and emotional support for the Rockwood community remains a priority. While we must remain physically distant from one another in the days and weeks ahead, we still have the opportunity to connect with one another socially using a variety of technological platforms. Let us continue our efforts to care for others socially and emotionally during this challenging time. Our school counselors, school social workers, and nurses remain available for support and assistance.
Thank you for your continued patience, flexibility, and understanding.
Mark T. Miles, Ph.D.
Rockwood School District
