Rockwood Taking Action to Help Community Members in Need

Rockwood is utilizing multiple services to help families in need during schol closures.
Many members of the Rockwood School District community have reached out to ask how they can help district families in need during these uncertain times.

Rockwood Gives Back, a group of volunteers that supports students and families in need, has some ideas for how community members can help out.

"It's amazing to hear everybody's desire to help," said Jaime Bayes, a Rockwood Board of Education director and member of the Rockwood Gives Back Steering Committee. "The ways people can help would be by making donations through Amazon or our website. And reaching out within their own communities and to their own neighbors and checking on people, making sure everybody's staying positive and well."

Due to the stay-at-home order, Rockwood Gives Back is encouraging people who want to help to donate items from its Amazon wish list. Any questions about the list can be sent to

In addition to the daily food distribution organized by the district, the Rockwood Got Your Back Pack program also plans to distribute bags of food to families, one day per week, with a supply of non-perishable food items.

The Giving Place is stocked with many items, but the following items are at the top of its wish list at this time:
  • New underwear (all sizes)
  • New socks (all sizes)
  • Cleaning products
  • Dish soap
  • Laundry detergent
  • Paper towels
  • Toilet paper
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Personal hygiene products
  • Diapers
  • Baby formula
  • Children's Motrin/Tylenol
  • Jelly
  • Oatmeal
  • Peanut butter
  • Pasta
  • Pasta sauce
  • Mac and cheese
  • Canned tuna
Rockwood Gives Back also continues to have funds available to assist families. Community members wishing to make a monetary donation can do so at the Rockwood Gives Back website or by mailing checks or gift cards to the Rockwood School District, Attn: Rockwood Gives Back.

"The school social workers are doing an amazing job taking care of everyone who has needs that they're aware of," Bayes said. "I would encourage people that, if they need something, reach out to their principals and their social workers. Establish that relationship so that the right resources can be used for helping them. Whether that's Rockwood Gives Back or other things the social workers have in their toolbox, the important thing is to just reach out."
