Selvidge Middle students are presenting a play written and directed by a student.
"A Tale of Four Tales" will be presented in the Selvidge cafeteria Thursday-Friday, Nov. 7-8, at 7 p.m.
"I think it's really cool that I have this opportunity to show what I wrote to the world," said Eli, the student who wrote the show. "Last year we did a show called 'Dorothy in Wonderland,' and it was a mix between 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'Wonderland.' That gave me the idea to mix different fairy tales together and try to create a unique show."
Kylie Braun teaches drama at Selvidge.
"The basic concept is a 2019 version of 'Little Red Riding Hood' where she goes back in time and meets Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast and tells them about life, lessons, how to stand up for themselves and not to judge people by how they look," said Braun. "It's similar to 'Into the Woods.' I have had student directors help with shows made by adults, but this is my first experience with having a student write a full-length show. We're very impressed and very proud and students are responding really, really well."
Eli's production now has moved off the written page and onto the stage.
"Now I'm directing – blocking and telling people where to go, what to say and what should be on stage. It's been really exciting."
