Rockwood Board of Education
Director Thomas Dunn has earned his Essential Board Member Certification from the Missouri School Boards' Association.
The certification involved 18.5 hours of training, both online and through onsite interactive sessions in October in St. Louis. Topics of study
included student achievement, effective board operations, legal issues, school
district policy, fundamentals of school finance and the role of the school board in establishing school district
"It allows you to understand other board members throughout the state and their viewpoints on challenges that their districts may be going through," Dunn said. "You can take that back to your board, as needed. It was a learning experience."
Rockwood Superintendent Dr. Mark Miles honored Dunn at the Dec. 5 Board of Education meeting.
"We congratulate Mr. Dunn for his commitment to our schools and our community," Miles said.
Dunn was elected to the school board in April, and his term expires in 2022. He and his wife, Lindsey, have three daughters who attend elementary, middle and high school in Rockwood.
"The certification was a great way to meet other board members from across the state and interact with them," Dunn said. "And you realize that Rockwood is really a top-notch district."
