Blevins Students Learn About Game Design
Fourth- and fifth-grade technology students at Blevins Elementary recently got an in-depth look at how some of the card games and board games they enjoy playing are created. They learned about game design and development from an expert in the field, Christopher Badell, who works at Greater than Games.
Badell brought in several games and comic books he designed, and students had an opportunity to test them out.
“I hope the students understand how much effort it takes to create a game that is enjoyed by many,” said Blevins technology teacher Shwetha Sundarrajan, who organized the presentation. “It takes a lot of dedication, passion and hard work to create a successful product.”
Sundarrajan said a group of fifth-graders had been developing their own card game called "World of Battle," and they were excited to show Badell what they had been working on.
“With the fifth-graders, we talked a lot about the process of prototyping games and playtesting games,” Badell said. “The students were great. They were a lot of fun and very passionate. It was great to see the different levels of interest amongst all the students.”
