Board of Education Approves Hire of Abby Smith as Coordinator of Professional Learning

The Rockwood Board of Education has approved the hiring of Abby Smith as the new coordinator of professional learning, beginning July 1. She replaces Dr. Dawnette Wiskur, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Smith is currently serving as a K-12 mathematics consultant at EducationPlus, a position she has held for the past three years. Prior to that, she served as the PreK-6 math instructional coach and coordinator in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District, a position she held for 10 years. Smith taught second and third grades for six years at Maplewood Richmond Heights Elementary and spent a year as a district literacy interventionist. She also served as the district’s University of Missouri-Columbia Fellows Mentor Teacher for two years.

Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from William Woods University.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to join the Rockwood School District as the coordinator of professional learning,” she said.  “I am passionate about building teacher capacity through meaningful professional development and cannot wait to collaborate with and learn alongside Rockwood educators!”

Smith lives with her husband and two children in Ballwin.
