Board of Education Approves Hire of Derec Guilstorf as Rockwood Valley Assistant Principal

The Rockwood Board of Education has approved the hiring of Derec Guilstorf as a new assistant principal at Rockwood Valley Middle, beginning July 1. He replaces Dustin Hays, who has been named the new activities director at Rockwood Summit High, also starting July 1.

Guilstorf has served as an administrative intern at St. Charles West High for the past year. Prior to that, he taught social studies and served as the administrative intern at Northeast Middle for two years in the Parkway School District. Guilstorf also taught English language arts and social studies at Bernard Middle in the Mehlville School District for six years. He participated in a multi-year future leaders cohort in Parkway as well as John Maxwell Leadership training and served as the aspiring principal representative for the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals.

Guilstorf earned his Bachelor of Science in History and a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from Truman State University, as well as his Educational Specialist in School Administration from Lindenwood University.

“I am honored to be the new assistant principal at Rockwood Valley Middle School,” said Guilstorf. “I've heard amazing things about RVMS, and I am excited to join this awesome community. I can't wait to get started and meet the students, families and staff!"

Guilstorf lives with his wife, Mary, who is an English teacher in Mehlville, in the Creve Coeur area, and they are expecting their first child in May.
