Board of Education Approves Hire of Dr. Scott Speer as Director of Transportation

The Rockwood Board of Education has approved the hiring of Dr. Scott Speer as the new director of transportation, effective July 1. He replaces Mike Heyman, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Speer has served as the transportation director for the Hannibal School District for the past nine years. Prior to that, he was a special education teacher in Hannibal for 12 years. During that time, he served as a Missouri Transition Liaison, delivering statewide professional development on post-secondary transition strategies for students with disabilities for four years. He also taught doctoral-level courses for educational leaders for a year at William Woods University. In addition, he has served on the Missouri Association for Pupil Transportation (MOAPT) Board for six years and served as president of the association for the last two years.

Speer earned his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary and Physical Education from Hannibal-LaGrange College and a Master of Education in Secondary Administration, a Specialist in Educational Leadership and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, all from William Woods.

Speer lives with his wife, Amber, and their five children in Hannibal.
