Class of 2024 Senior Spotlight: Farouk Ahmad, Rockwood Summit High
Throughout his time at Rockwood Summit High, senior Farouk Ahmad sought out – and benefited from – a variety of opportunities to connect with classmates and teachers.
On the Falcons’ soccer team, he deepened his bond with teammates through games, practices and team-building events. During National Honor Society volunteering opportunities, he built relationships with community members while giving back.
In his AP Computer Science class with teacher Jon Merz, he used the coursework to help determine where his path will lead him next. Ahmad plans to attend Saint Louis University and major in computer science.
“Not only was it a challenging class, but it was also a class I had with my friends, therefore it was a fun experience,” he said. “Honestly Rockwood really shaped my future and made sure that I would succeed in all of my goals.”
Ahmad said his extracurriculars at Rockwood Summit – soccer, National Honor Society, the Link Crew student leadership team and the Asian Affinity Network – left a lasting impact on him and were an important, positive part of his high school experience.
“My extracurriculars created a lot of opportunities for me and created connections I never thought I would have made,” he said. “All of them really shaped my life today.”
When it came time to start planning for life after Rockwood Summit, Ahmad said college and career counselor Ivy Hartman and the school’s Post-High School Planning Office staff were instrumental in helping chart a course.
“They helped me a ton with the process of applying for colleges and making sure I was getting the best scholarships,” he said. “There are countless ways Rockwood really set me up for post-graduate life.”
