Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight: Jace Menendez, Eureka High

During his four years playing on the Eureka High soccer team, Jace Menendez forged lasting friendships, learned valuable lessons in leadership and made memories to last a lifetime, such as the Wildcats' win over Christian Brothers College High School when he was a sophomore.

Eureka sports had such a positive impact on his life that he was also eager to help spread the wealth to athletes in other sports as a leader of the school's Catpound student cheering section.

"Being the captain of the soccer team has taught me so much, as I’ve learned to be a leader and was able to help my teammates no matter what," Menendez said. "Being the student section leader was such an honor for me, as high school games are some of the best. Cheering on other sports and supporting your school is so important because it connects everyone. These added to my experience because I was taught what it meant to be such a big part of your school."

The Eureka High senior plans to attend the University of Missouri after graduation. Menendez is still honing in on a major, but he aspires to pursue a postgraduate path in law or medicine.

A Rockwood student for the past decade -- grades 3-5 at Blevins Elementary, then on to LaSalle Springs Middle and Eureka -- Menendez said he is grateful for the support he has felt.

"The Rockwood experience has helped me so much for my next step," he said. "Every teacher is great, and they have a great group of counselors to help you with your future path. Rockwood ensures success and gives you every detail you need for after you graduate high school. They are always there to help you and will follow whatever path you choose."

One particular standout teacher for Menendez was Lauren Schoellhorn, who he had for AP Art History and AP World History.

"She cares about every student," he said. "She wants everyone to succeed and is very thoughtful. She was always there for me and was someone I could talk to about school or personal problems."
