Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight: Shreyas Iyer, Marquette High

During 13 years of a Rockwood School District education, Marquette High senior Shreyas Iyer found a variety of ways to challenge himself inside the classroom.

Outside of school hours, he may have been even more busy, as a member of the Marquette Speech and Debate and Luxons robotics teams and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and DECA clubs, among other activities.

“The opportunity to take whatever classes I wanted allowed me to experience a variety of different fields, finding out what I liked and didn't like and ultimately narrowing my future career paths,” Iyer said. “Also, participating in clubs allowed me to continue this exploration in a less-structured environment.”

Iyer has been a Rockwood student since kindergarten, at Wild Horse Elementary, Crestview Middle and Marquette. He plans to attend the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University-Bloomington after graduation.

“I wanted to pursue a field that had a quantitative aspect to it but also where relationships with people are very important,” Iyer said.

Going into his senior year, he was able to gain real-world experience in finance and learn professional leadership skills through a Rockwood Partners in Education (PIE) summer internship. He also spent a week at Missouri Boys State this past summer and was elected state treasurer by his peers during the program, in which participants utilize the democratic system as a basis to form their own state, teaching the value of public office, the strength of the individual voice and the importance of voting.

During his time at Marquette, Iyer also advanced to national competitions in FBLA, DECA and Speech and Debate.

“My favorite times in Rockwood would be traveling out of town for clubs, especially with my friends,” he said. “Not only did I enjoy the competitive aspect and trying to find success, but the trips made some of the best times I have spent with my friends.”
