Eureka High’s Dr. David Arledge Named High School Assistant Principal of the Year

Eureka High Assistant Principal Dr. David Arledge has been named the 2023-2024 High School Assistant Principal of the Year by the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals (SASSP).

SASSP executive board members surprised Dr. Arledge with the news in front of students and staff members on April 4.

"I love what I do, and I love being around the kids and staff members," Arledge said. "I treat our students like they are my own children."

This is Arledge’s fifth year as assistant principal at Eureka. Previously, Arledge worked in the Riverview Gardens and Ferguson-Florissant school districts.

"I enjoy seeing the kids succeed and helping them find their passion and what they want to do after high school," he said.

Arledge credited his success to the people with whom he interacts every day.

"I’m surrounded by amazing administrators who come to school every day for the kids, and I couldn’t do what I do without them,” Arledge said.

"SASSP is proud to celebrate Dr. Arledge because of his unwavering commitment to his community, specifically the fine arts programs," said Jon Schultz, SASSP president-elect. "His ability to build strong relationships and enthusiastically support his school while maintaining a dedication to high levels of student learning exemplifies the characteristics of highly effective assistant principals."

SASSP represents a region within the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MoASSP) and covers 31 school districts and private schools throughout the St. Louis metro area. Each MoASSP region selects one individual to be recognized as High School Assistant Principal of the Year. One of those recipients will be selected as the MoASSP Assistant Principal of the Year and will be entered into the national Assistant Principal of the Year award program.

Arledge will be formally recognized at an awards banquet later this month, where he will receive a $250 scholarship to award to a student of his choice.
