Eureka, Rockwood Summit Wind Ensembles Chosen to Perform at Statewide Music Conference
The wind ensembles from Eureka and Rockwood Summit high schools have been chosen to perform at the 2025 Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) In-Service Workshop and Conference, which will be held Jan. 28-Feb. 1 in Osage Beach.
The two Rockwood School District groups are among only 33 from around the state scheduled to perform at the MMEA conference and two of only six high school bands.
Eureka last performed at the MMEA conference in 2009.
"The Eureka High School Wind Ensemble is tremendously honored to have been selected to perform," said Eureka director of bands Brad Smelser. "Beyond the January performance, preparing the music will demand exceptional hard work and dedication, pushing students to reach their full potential. This growth process is the most rewarding aspect of this experience. Our students will develop in ways they cannot yet imagine.I am incredibly grateful to be part of a school community where high expectations are the standard for all our activities."
To be considered for the MMEA conference, groups submit performance recordings that are then evaluated by an out-of-state committee of music educators who recommend performing ensembles for the conference.
"We are absolutely thrilled for the opportunity to play at the state conference!" said Jeremy Loui, Rockwood Summit director of bands. "This is a tremendous honor, and we are looking forward to this performance as a celebration of the hard work and commitment of our students. This recognition is a testament to the incredible students, committed families and the commitment to music education here in the Fenton quadrant."
