Giving Back: Rockwood Volunteers Help Collect Donations for The Giving Place
This past weekend, the Rockwood School District participated in the annual April Showers event hosted by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri.
The event, hosted at Crestview Middle, brought together seven community agencies -- including the Rockwood Gives Back (RGB) Giving Place -- who benefited from the annual community service project. A group of volunteers across several days were responsible for organizing and sorting the items. This is the third year RGB has partnered with the Girl Scouts for the April Showers event.
On Saturday, six Rockwood social work volunteers -- Eureka High's April Welch, Marquette High's Taylor Decker, Crestview's Betsy Kacena and her daughter, Ruby, Supervisor of Mental and Emotional Health Jacklyn Floyd and Fenton Quadrant elementary social worker Sierra Gribble -- were able to "pack the van" full of more than 1,500 essential household and hygiene items. The Rockwood social workers continue to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to service and support beyond the school walls.
On Monday, a team of volunteers helped unload and sort the donations at The Giving Place, which is located in Rockwood Early Childhood's Eureka center.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the overwhelming generosity of donors and the hard work of volunteers with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, many who are our very own Rockwood students and families. This event helps support The Giving Place in providing essentials to Rockwood families in need throughout the entire school year. The April Showers event continues to be a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when people come together for a common cause.
For those who missed the event but would still like to help, donations are always welcome at The Giving Place. Frequently needed items include laundry detergent, cleaning supplies and trash bags. For more information on how to donate or get involved, please visit The Giving Place.
The Rockwood Summit High Junior Achievement chapter -- through its company, Fresh Threads -- also recently collected $1,345 of donations for Rockwood Gives Back by organizing a raffle.
Thank you to these outstanding students!
