March Board Awards Ceremony Honors Rockwood Student, Staff Achievement
More than 150 Rockwood School District students and staff members were honored for their achievements during the Board of Education Awards Ceremony on March 7 at Marquette High.
The Board of Education Award is one of Rockwood's most prestigious honors, recognizing students and staff members who have achieved the highest standards of excellence that embody the Rockwood spirit.
Representatives from all four high schools earned Board Awards, as well as students and staff members from two elementary schools, two middle schools and the Center for Creative Learning. Board of Education President Jaime Bayes and Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain welcomed attendees to the ceremony, and Cain, Bayes and vice president Lynne Midyett helped hand out the awards to students and staff.
During the ceremony, one Lafayette High educator and a Rockwood Summit student were honored with Above and Beyond Awards for outstanding contributions through non-required service or volunteerism.
Lafayette music teacher Traci Bolton was honored for her service as vice president of the Missouri Music Educators Association for the past two years, working to ensure every student in Missouri has access and exposure to a well-balanced, comprehensive and high-quality program of music instruction.
Rockwood Summit sophomore Kyle Floyd was honored for his heroic actions in assisting a friend who was choking and struggling to breathe during a recent lunch period. Floyd took quick, decisive action in applying the Heimlich maneuver to his friend and dislodging the food.
"Kyle's quick thinking and actions helped save his friend's life that day," Rockwood Summit Principal Dr. Emily McCown said during the ceremony. "Well done, Kyle, we are proud of you!"

The Rockwood School District is asking 2024 graduates of our four high schools to give us an update on their college and/or career progress since graduation last spring.
