May Board Awards Ceremony Honors Rockwood Student, Staff Accolades
More than 350 Rockwood School District students, groups and staff members were honored for their achievements during the Board of Education Awards Ceremony on May 15 at Lafayette High.
The Board of Education Award is one of Rockwood's most prestigious honors, recognizing students and staff members who have achieved the highest standards of excellence that embody the Rockwood spirit.
Representatives from all four high schools and all six middle schools earned Board Awards.
Board of Education President Lynne Midyett and Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain welcomed attendees to the ceremony, and Dr. Cain and directors Sarah Boyer and Phil Milligan helped hand out the awards to students and staff.
Two Selvidge Middle staff members were also honored with Above and Beyond Awards for using their dedication and ingenuity to help a student.
Band director Caitlin Gierer and librarian James Miller collaborated to produce a 3D-printed adaptive device that enabled a student who is missing a pinkie finger to play the clarinet with full functionality.
"In mid-March, the 21st version proved to be successful, allowing the student to play the previously inaccessible note," Selvidge Assistant Principal Dr. Brent Pearson said while presenting the award. "Thanks to this collaboration, the student is now able to play all the notes and continue pursuing his love of music."
