More than 20 Rockwood Students Earn Awards at HOSA International Leadership Conference

Students and recent graduates representing the Lafayette High and Marquette High chapters of the HOSA - Future Health Professionals club earned accolades at the HOSA International Leadership Conference (ILC), which was held June 18-21 in Nashville, Tennessee.

These Rockwood School District students joined more than 14,000 attendees -- including HOSA members, advisors, accomplished health professionals and esteemed alumni -- from around the world for days filled with vibrant HOSA-centered activities.

Rockwood's top-10 finishers in their competitive events were: Lafayette's Tose Toriola (2nd, Medical Spelling) and Jessica Guan (3rd, Epidemiology); the Marquette teams of Deetya Ladi, Saanvi Makkapati and Samridhi Singh (3rd, MRC Partnership) and Mahita Karnati, Annie Kee, Jada Manning, Annanya Sethi, Ana Singh and Lindsay Wang (7th, MRC Partnership); Marquette's Tanvi Narendrula (7th, Dental Terminology); Lafayette's Avalyn Long (8th, Clinical Nursing); and the Lafayette team of Alexandra Mimlitz, Alexis Sandberg and Shruthi Senthil (10th, Public Service Announcement). More than 12,000 students participated in competitive events at the ILC, and these seven Rockwood entries were among only 20 event winners from the state of Missouri.

Long was also one of only 44 students at the conference - and the only one from the state of Missouri - to earn a score in the top 10 percent of the Health Care Issues Exam.

Marquette's Deleena Mehrotra and Emma Pieper and Lafayette's Sarah Scaff (Silver) and Lafayette's Tejveer Atwal and Marquette's Jahnavi Immidisetti and Rahul Modugu (Bronze) also earned Barabara James Service Award recognition, which provides members with the opportunity to become contributing members of their communities by performing worthy volunteer community service hours related to health. They were among 51 students from Missouri to earn the award at this year's ILC.

More than 70 students from Eureka, Lafayette and Marquette earned the opportunity to participate in the ILC by logging top-three finishes at the Missouri State Leadership Conference in March.

Here's a rundown of the recognition our Rockwood students earned on an international stage!
