Red Ribbon Week Celebrations Encourage Rockwood Students to Make Healthy Choices

National Red Ribbon Week runs from Oct. 23-31, a drug prevention awareness project during which adults and youth are encouraged to demonstrate their support of drug-free lifestyles and to participate in various drug prevention activities.

This year's theme is "Life is a Puzzle: Solve it Drug Free," and schools around the Rockwood School District are taking part in the festivities by holding their own events, contests, theme days and more.

Check out what some of our schools are doing to celebrate Red Ribbon Week.

Fairway Elementary celebrated "Healthy Habits Week" during the week of Oct. 20-24 with theme days including "Move it Monday," "Tasty Tuesday," "Wellness Wednesday" and "Fitness Friday." Students also participated in "The Great Pumpkin Fun Run" on Thursday, Oct. 23.

Crestview Middle held a Red Ribbon Week-themed door decorating contest, with the winning class from each grade level earning a donut party. The school is also hosting dress-up days during the week, and students are decorating puzzle pieces with drug-free pledges to be combined into a schoolwide mural.

Wildwood Middle held Spirit Week theme days while celebrating Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 20-24, along with trivia during the morning announcements and prizes for classes who answered the questions first. Students who participated in the theme days also received candy and tickets for a raffle to get a chance to spin a prize wheel during lunch Friday.

Kehrs Mill Elementary featured a different theme centered on "Healthy Habits" each day during Red Ribbon Week. Each class also received a Bingo card with healthy habits that were read out on morning announcements during the week, and classes who completed their cards received prizes.

LaSalle Springs Middle's Red Ribbon Week activities included a guest speaker for a school assembly on Monday, Oct. 27.

Rockwood South Middle is holding spirit days the week of Oct. 27, as well as hosting its annual schoolwide student Red Ribbon Week poster design contest.
