Rockwood Board of Education Holds Reorganization Meeting

The Rockwood School District Board of Education held its reorganization meeting Thursday, April 9.

New Director Dr. Amy Wassman and returning members Kary Bachert and Bob Cadigan were all sworn in for three-year terms that will end in the spring of 2029. There was no election held this year because three candidates filed for the three open seats. Wassman replaces Lynne Midyett, who did not seek re-election after serving 10 years on the Board, the last two years as president. 

The Rockwood Board of Education unanimously voted to name Tammy Rhomberg as the board president for the 2026-2027 school year, which will mark her first year in that position after having served as vice president for the past two years. The Board also unanimously voted to name Kary Bachert board vice president, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent Janet Sadowski to remain secretary and Chief Financial Officer Cyndee Byous to remain treasurer.

Wassman is a lifelong resident and proud alumna of the Rockwood School District, having attended Rockwood Early Childhood, Eureka Elementary, LaSalle Springs Middle and Eureka High. She has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, master’s degrees in Special Education and Administration and a Doctorate in School Leadership. Wassman spent nearly a decade as a teacher and has served as a Special Education Coordinator with the Special School District for six years. Her children currently attend Eureka Elementary.

Bachert is a lifelong resident of Rockwood and taught in the district from 1995 to 2003. She and her husband have two sons, one who is a Class of 2021 Eureka graduate and one who is a Class of 2025 graduate. Bachert has volunteered in the district for more than 18 years, and she currently works for the American Heart Association.

Cadigan has more than 30 years of corporate leadership experience in positions ranging from manager to vice president. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and has lived in the St. Louis area for 28 years with the last nine years in Rockwood.  He has two children who have graduated from college and is married to a Rockwood educator who is a Marquette high graduate and who has a child that is a graduate of Lafayette High and a child who is currently a junior at Lafayette.

The new board also voted unanimously to reaffirm their commitment to the Board Code of Ethics.
