Rockwood Counseling Coordinator Elected to National Board of Directors

Matthew Berry, the Rockwood School District coordinator of school counseling, is one of three newly elected members of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Board of Directors.

Berry and his fellow new directors begin their three-year terms on Oct. 1. The ASCA is a nonprofit organization that promotes student success by expanding the image and influence of school counseling through leadership, advocacy, collaboration and systemic change.

The ASCA has a network of 51 state and territory associations and a membership of approximately 43,000 school counseling professionals. Berry has served on the Missouri School Counselor Association (MSCA) Board of Directors for the past six years.

Berry, who is entering his third year in Rockwood, was named an MSCA School Counselor of the Year in 2020 and was a top-five finalist for ASCA School Counselor of the Year in 2022.

In a significant step toward unity and collaboration, the Rockwood Board of Education, members of the superintendent’s cabinet, leadership from the Rockwood National Education Association and members of the respective negotiations teams came together May 7 for a restorative conversation. This dedicated time together followed seven months of negotiations that culminated in an agreement that was ratified by RNEA members in March.
